Thinking of a great weekend trip or even better, an extended weekend getaway? Check out this post for some my favorite weekend trips all over the country for your next trip! Whether you’re looking for a family vacation, girls or guys trips and even a romantic couple retreat, look no further. I’m sure you’ll find a destination here that is perfect for you!
San Francisco, California
San Francisco is definitely one of my favorite cities for its food, charm and beauty. It makes a perfect weekend trip for couples and girlfriends alike. If time permits, a trip to Napa Valley in the fall is an absolute must. And when you’ve seen all that needs to be seen, I’d recommend visiting its neighbor Sausalito, which is just across the Golden Gate Bridge. My favorites? Visiting B. Patisserie in the mornings for freshly baked goods and coffee. Picnicking in park with Ike’s Place sandwiches packed and other treats from my favorite farmer’s market on Saturdays at Ferry Plaza and dinner at one of our favorite places: Bistro Central Parc.
Whether it’s cherry blossom season or not, Washington D.C. makes for a wonderful vacation, especially for families and museum lovers. I love that most of the museums are free of charge and they are absolutely worth it! There’s so many of them for just about anything from art to history and even food! Don’t forget to visit Capitol Hill and other national monuments. And when you’re tired, find a place around the Tidal basin to rest. It’s definitely a walkable city but bring comfy shoes, you’ll definitely need them. My favorite cheap lunch spot is District Taco which is conveniently just a short walk from Capitol Hill.
New York City, New York
If you are a big foodie, then you’ll love the Big Apple. Whether you here to see the pretty lady (Statue of liberty) or broadway shows, or shop your heart out, you definitely can’t miss out on the best food New York has to offer! Plan out your meals carefully or be like me and roam from one cafe to the next back to back. A few of my favorites are Katz’s Delicatessen, Blue Ribbon Brasserie, The Halal Guys, Taiyaki & Lombardi’s Pizza. Other places to eat in NYC.
Siesta Key, Florida
8 miles of beautiful white sand and blue ocean line the Gulf coast and has become one of my favorite beach in the continental U.S. This makes for the best beach getaway for families, couples and friends. If nightlife is what you’re looking for, you won’t find it here. Just peace and quiet. Visit the Toasted Mango Cafe, while you’re there for a delicious breakfast/brunch.
We were in Portland for an extended weekend for a friend’s wedding and absolutely loved it! Portland is such a quirky and charming city filled with overflowing gardens and plenty of bikers. The people are so happy and super nice! The food is unique and I love that they support so many local businesses. Take a short drive outside the city and find some of the most beautiful waterfalls like Multnomah falls. My favorites? Tasty & Alder, Salt & Straw ice cream, Blue Star donuts & Pok Pok thai food.
Looking for good bbq? Austin is your place! Find the best bbq at Franklin, but remember to go early because they sell out very quickly (sometimes even at noon)! After you’re full, head over to Mount Bonnell for a short hike and a stunning view of Austin. If you are with friends, you might find it fun to bar hop down 6th Street. Or a nice evening sitting by the water at Mozart’s Coffee makes for a romantic laid back date.
The Windy City is one of my favorite places to visit in the Spring and summer for the beach and year round for the food. Some may not think of Chicago as a beach getaway but the city sits along Lake Michigan and it’s sandy shores makes for the perfect getaway during the summer months. Other possible activities is kayak or canoe-ing with boat rentals available right downtown. Make sure you try Girl and the Goat. The portions are huge and the food is fantastic!
Savannah, Georgia & Charleston, South Carolina
Savannah or Charleston? Why not both?! They are only 2 hours apart by car and both are equally as charming. The 2 southern belles of the South makes for a great trip for families and couples. Savannah has beautiful parks and a very hip and young vibe thanks to SCAD. Charleston is full of churches and beautiful architecture and colorful homes. Both are lined with beautiful, grand oak trees and Spanish moss, full of history, personality and hospitality. Visit Wormsloe in Savannah and the Angel Oak in Charleston. Below is a photo I took of my brother and his fiancé at Wormsloe under the canopy of Oak trees.
New Orleans, Louisiana
Not only is New Orleans charming, but it’s also highly affordable! Consider this place for its easy-going vibes and some of the most amazing Cajun cooking. Stroll down Bourbon Street for a little people watching, cheap drinks and beignets. My favorite time to visit is in March & April when it’s crawfish season. Some of the best crawfish and food places can found on the westbank and not in the French quarter.
